About the region

Aktobe region is located in the North - Western part of Kazakhstan and is located in two parts of the world – in Europe and Asia. The length of the territory from North to South is about 700 km, from East to West about 800 km. the Area of the second largest region of the Republic of Kazakhstan is 300.6 thousand km2 and occupies about 11% of the country's territory.
Aktobe region is located between the Caspian lowland in the West, Ustyurt plateau in the South, Turan lowland in the Southeast and the southern spurs of the Urals in the North. Most of the region is a plain, dissected by river valleys, height 100-200 m. in the middle part extend Mugodzhary (the highest point of the mountain Big Baktybay, 657 m). In the West, Aktobe region is Poturalski plateau, in the southwest challenge in the Caspian lowlands; to the South-East massifs of hilly Sands — Aral Kara-Kum and Large and Small Barsuki. In the North-East in the Aktobe region comes Turgay plateau, rugged ravines.
The rivers of Aktobe region belong to the drainage basins of the Caspian sea and small lakes, the sources of the rivers are in Mugodzhar. The largest rivers are Emba (712 km), tributaries of the Urals-Or (314 km), Ilek, as well as Irgiz (593 km), UIL (800 km), Turgay (825 km) and Sagiz. Many rivers are low-water, dry up in the summer or break up into stretches.
There are many lakes (more than 150), mostly small and medium salty (for example aike); some of them, drying up, form salt marshes (for example, Shalkarteniz, filled with water only in the spring). Low-water rivers and salt lakes are almost not suitable for economic purposes. In this regard, fresh groundwater is widely used.
On the river Kargaly dammed reservoir Kargalinskoe area of 28.5 km2, capacity of 280 million m3.
The North-Western part of the region is occupied by grass-grass and sagebrush-grass steppe on black earth and dark chestnut soils with patches of salt; along the river valleys — meadow vegetation, groves of poplar, aspen, birch, bushes.
The middle and North-Eastern parts are occupied by cereal-sagebrush dry steppe on light chestnut and gray-earth slightly saline soils. In the South there are sagebrush-Solyanka semi-deserts and deserts on brown saline soils with arrays of Sands and salt marshes. Many rodents (steppe lemming, gopher, jerboa), ravenous (wolf, Korsak); preserved saiga antelope and Gazelle.

Aktobe region - is a large industrial region of Kazakhstan. The basis of the industrial sector — mining and chemical industry, ferrous metallurgy. Mineral reserves are: gas-144.9 billion m3, oil-243.6 million tons, oil and gas condensate-32.7 million tons. There are large deposits of chromite (1st place in the CIS), Nickel-cobalt ores, phosphorite, potassium salts, etc.
In the region there are enterprises "CNPC-Aktobemunaygas", "aktobenefteprovod" (Kenkiyak — Orsk oil pipeline, 362 km), plants "aktyubrentgen", agricultural machinery, ferroalloys (AZF), chromium compounds (AZHS), "Aktobemunay", chemical plant, Aktobe-Shilisay production Association, plant of building materials, furniture factory, factory "Sweets Aktobe", aircraft repair plant, Zhanazhol gas condensate plant (2 million tons of oil and 0.8 billion m3 of gas per year), etc.
Aktobe is a city in Western Kazakhstan, the administrative center of Aktobe region and the city administration of the same name.
Aktobe is a major industrial center, closely associated with chromite deposits to the East of the city. There are factories of ferroalloys, chrome compounds, agricultural machinery, x-ray equipment, etc. Developed chemical, light, food industry.
The largest enterprises of the city are Aktobe Ferroalloy plant, aktyubrentgen, Aktobe chrome compounds plant (AZHS) and a number of food industry enterprises. AZF produces 22 % of Kazakhstan's ferroalloys. AZHS is the only enterprise in the country producing chromium oxide, chromium anhydride, tannins, sodium dichromate.
In Aktobe there are large enterprises of the food industry producing flour, confectionery and pasta, vegetable oil and other products.
Aktobe region and Aktobe are one of the four regions of Kazakhstan, where the production of alcoholic beverages is concentrated. Local vodka producer GEOM LLP (Wimpex) is one of the largest vodka producers in Kazakhstan and occupies 22 % of this market. The production of alcohol is also engaged in LLP "Aktobe champagne factory", CJSC "Aray", LLP "centaur", Aktobe distillery "Crystal", Kazakh-German joint venture "Omirbek" and LLP "Transmars". Companies "Omirbek" and "GEOM" several times included in the list of the largest taxpayers of Aktobe region.

Climatic conditions

The climate is sharply continental; winters are cold, summers are hot and arid. In summer, dry winds and dust storms are frequent, in winter — blizzards. The average temperature of July in the North-West +22.5 °C, in the South-East +25 °C, January respectively -16 °C and -25.5 °C. rainfall in the North-West about 300, in the center and in the South-125-200 mm per year. The growing season ranges from 175 days in the Northwest to 190 days in the Southeast.
